Hi! I'm Sara, and I've been drawn to gardens for as long as I can remember.
As a kid, I loved exploring garden centers and botanical gardens, always curious about new plants and their possibilities. In my childhood backyard, I loved gathering flowers for bouquets and discovering nature's artifacts like pine cones, acorn caps, bird feathers and eggshell pieces.
As an adult, I studied and worked in the biotechnology sector - first in health care, then soil remediation, alternative energy sources, and green chemistry - all the while continuing to care for my own gardens. Eventually, I wanted more direct impact on environmental health within my own community. After getting my permaculture design certificate from the San Francisco Urban Permaculture Institute in 2017, I knew I was headed in the right direction. Since 2019, I've studied arboriculture and landscape design at Merritt College in Oakland.
I've come to understand how human and environmental health interconnect, and how thoughtfully designed urban spaces can serve as green infrastructure benefiting both people and wildlife. My scientific background helps me understand the complexities of plant physiology and soil biochemistry to enrich my work in pruning and landscape design.
Gardens can connect us with nature and spark our senses of wonder, joy, serenity. I want to help make your urban garden a beautiful space in a way that feels special to you.
